Nuking Your Food for beginners

Nuking is one of the terms people used for describing cooking or warming food in the microwave. How does food get warmed or cook in the microwave? What is a microwave? How does it work? Why do you call it nuking? Will you die from eating too much microwaved food? Will you get mutated eating food that has been nuking? Let's found out.

Nuke that shit!

Well microwaves are just radio waves with a frequency of 2.5 Ghz and wavelength of about 5 inch. These properties causes this waves to affect only sugar, water and fat.

Hold up! How does one produce or make these special radio waves?

Meet magnetron! Sounds like a robot in disguised right, but no, it's actually an important part for radar. Yup, that radar, the ones we used to detect objects far away. Who knew microwave has a weapon background to it.

A magnetron can be a weapon or not, some I think it can be a Decepticon or Autobots.

Another amazing fact about the microwave is that it is found accidentally. How awesome is that, this is another accidental invention (including Corn Flakes, Play Doh and Slinky)

K, I am pretty full of history and stuff, now on to more important stuff, NUKING!!!

I told you it only excites only sugar, fat and water molecule. This excitement creates heat and cooks the food. If this is so awesome, why don't chefs used to cook food?

Yeah, you are going to have some uncooked chicken if you don't arranged it properly

For one, food cooked in a regular away, requires heat to penetrate the food from the outside in. This would create a delicious crust. Imagined fried chicken, seared tuna or caramelized fruit. This is the reaction of normal cooking.

Crust!!!!

Microwave food does not have these crusts. Instead food cooked in the microwave resembles food that has been steamed.

Since food is good in a relatively short time, there is very little margin for error while cooking. Also food is not cooked evenly because different parts of the food has different thickness.

Forget frying in oil or something, because it won't work. This severely limits what a chef  can do.

Fear not!

If you know the right tricks, a microwave can be a fantastic tool.

Since the food cook in microwave resembles steaming technique, many delicious food can be made.

Steamed vegetables infused with garlic and oil is snap. Mug cakes using coffee mugs is a blast during tea time. Melting chocolate or anything into a heavenly goodness makes it awesome. Easy roasted chicken breast for you sandwiches and salads becomes a hit.

You can always buy these "hot pockets" or bags which is a insulated cardboard where you insert food in, and the heat from the food, heat up the insulated part of the cardboard, to provide a crisper skin to your food, if you choose to have it.

These things would cost a lot in Malaysia
